Citrine

The sun does not apologise for shining.

The Stone

Citrine is quartz turned the colour of honey and morning light — a warm golden yellow that at its richest deepens toward amber and burnt orange. Natural citrine is genuinely uncommon, its colour the gift of trace iron, and it carries a glow that seems to come from within rather than merely reflect the room. Much of what is sold as citrine is heat-treated amethyst, browner and more abrupt in its tone; the true stone is subtler, a pale champagne warmth.

There is nothing shadowed about Citrine. It is the mineral kingdom’s expression of daylight and good cheer, a stone that seems constitutionally incapable of gloom. To hold it is to feel invited toward the brighter side of a thing.

Properties

Citrine belongs to the solar plexus, the seat of will, confidence, and personal power, and it warms that centre like sunlight warms the belly. It is famous as the merchant’s stone — carried for abundance, prosperity, and the manifestation of one’s aims — but its deeper gift is joy and the courage to act. It dispels self-doubt, feeds motivation, and, unusually among crystals, is said never to hold negative energy, so it never needs clearing of what it has absorbed.

In Practice

Citrine is tucked into wallets, cash drawers, and workspaces to draw prosperity and steady the will. Held in meditation it kindles confidence and lifts a low mood; placed in the wealth corner of a home it is a favourite of feng shui practice. Its colour can fade in prolonged sun, so charge it briefly and store it out of harsh light.
