Notes on Conditions, part of the Knowledge collection.
- Anxiety: The threat-detection system running at full power with no threat in the room.
- Bipolar Disorder: A mind tethered between two poles, swinging by the gravity of its own chemistry.
- Burnout: A server that crashes under load doesn't have a character flaw. It has insufficient resources for the demand.
- Depression: Sadness is weather. Depression is climate, and the climate forgets the sun was ever real.
- Mania: The engine is still running, it's just running so far past the redline that the gauge no longer means anything.
- Narcissism: No amount of optimism can change the fact that sometimes, people will take advantage of you, in very unexpected and sinister ways.
- Psychosis: A break in shared reality, the mind narrating a world the body alone can see.
- PTSD: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, when the threat is over but the nervous system never gets the message.
