About

"The mind is like an iceberg — most is beneath the surface."

Overview

Psychoanalysis — the tradition Jung split from, kept here for what it still gets right: defense mechanisms, transference patterns, and the historical foundation of depth psychology. Major Freudian Concepts is the overview; the rest of the folder takes the ideas individually.

The Model

Everything starts with The Unconscious — Freud's insight that most of mental life happens beneath awareness. Its structure is the eternal negotiation of The Id, Ego, and Superego, driven by The Pleasure Principle (the id's one rule: more, now) and shaped in childhood through Psychosexual Development and The Oedipus Complex, the family drama that forges the superego.

The Defenses

Defense Mechanisms catalogs how the ego lies to itself to survive — repression, projection, sublimation, and the rest.

The Method

The clinical toolkit: Free Association (say whatever comes to mind), Dream Work (the royal road to the unconscious), Transference (you're not talking to your therapist — you're talking to your mother), and Resistance (the patient seeks help but fights the process).
