Infinite State Sample Pack
An open-source collection of synthesizer samples, drum loops, and presets for music production. Recorded from hardware I own and love, released for anyone to use, no licensing fees, no restrictions.
What's Inside
Single-note recordings (C, sampled clean) from a collection of analog and digital synthesizers:
- MakeNoise 0-Coast: West Coast synthesis, chaotic and alive.
- Moog Sub37: deep analog bass and lead tones.
- Roland JP-08: classic 80s digital textures.
- Korg Monologue: modern analog character.
- Korg Volca Keys: lo-fi analog charm.
- Arturia MicroBrute: raw analog aggression.
- Roland TR-8: drum machine classics.
- Native Instruments Monark: a software take on the classic Moog sound.
Plus original drum loops, Ableton Live presets that show the samples in context, and content prepared for the Teenage Engineering OP-1.
Why Single Notes
A single sustained C from a synthesizer is the most useful thing you can sample. Load it into any sampler and the instrument plays in every key, through whatever envelope and effects you choose. You get the character of the hardware (the drift, the warmth, the imperfection that makes analog worth recording) without needing the hardware on your desk.
That's the point of the pack. These instruments sat in my studio. Most people will never own a 0-Coast or a Sub37, and they shouldn't have to in order to hear what one sounds like in their own music.
Open Source Music
Software taught me that sharing your building blocks makes everyone's work better, including your own. The same logic applies to sound. Use these samples in your tracks, remix them, layer them, mangle them. Attribution is appreciated but not required.
Open source gave me my career. This is a small way of extending the same spirit to the other thing I love.
