There's a memecoin named after Requests, and I'm involved with it. I'd rather you hear about it from me, plainly, than from a screenshot.
How This Happened
I didn't create the token. It launched on pump.fun on October 20th, and shortly after, someone from pump.fun reached out to me. I got involved after launch, and the creator fees from trading now go to me.I use them in two ways: buying more $requests, and supporting my growing family: my wife, Sarah, and our kids. Sarah needs a new car. That's a plain disclosure, not a promise of buybacks, price support, or returns.
Requests itself is unchanged. The library lives with the Python Software Foundation, and this token doesn't touch it. It's a separate thing that borrows the name and, I hope, a little of the spirit: for humans.
What's Official
The official home is requeststoken.org. My official X account is @kennethreitz42. That's it.
requeststoken.com is not mine. @RequestsToken is not mine. The community did a DexScreener community takeover to fix the listing, and the token is on fomo now. If you're ever unsure whether a link is real, check requeststoken.org. It is the source of truth.
Skin in the Game
About 10.7% of the supply is locked on Streamflow, non-cancelable, until February 14, 2027.February 14th is also the day I published Requests 0.2.0 to PyPI in 2011. I like that rhyme. When that date comes, I'll decide in the open whether to renew the lock, burn the tokens, or lock them for much longer, and I want the community's input before I do.
The Sale
I should be honest about something. Once, I sold the tokens I had bought outside the lock. Part of that went to buying Sarah a new phone. People criticized it, and I understand why: when the person whose name is on the thing sells, it looks like a signal, whether or not it is one.
I'm not going to pretend it didn't happen. The locked tokens never moved. I'd rather be transparent and take the criticism than be quiet and let rumors fill the space.
The Rules
The community has five rules, and they're the same ones on the site:
- Be cordial or be on your way.
- Stay risk averse.
- Build things for humans.
- Expect imposters. We'll never DM you first.
- Optimize for social impact and sustainability.
The first one is an essay I wrote in 2013, and it still holds. The fourth one matters most in practice. I will never DM you first. Anyone who does, claiming to be me, is an imposter.
Ideas, Not Promises
I'm more interested in what a token could do than what it could be worth. One idea I keep coming back to is holder-threshold access: an API or service you can use if you hold a certain amount, where the fees cover the server costs. Something useful, sustainable, and boring in the best way.The best tools I've built were the boring ones. They did one thing, obviously, and got out of your way.
These are ideas. Not roadmap items, not promises. If they happen, they'll happen in public, with the community.
Come Say Hello
There's a group chat on X: join it here. If the link doesn't work, DM @kennethreitz42. Women are especially welcome. X is home.
There's also a very experimental Telegram group. There is no Discord. Treat any other Telegram or Discord as fake. The only real links are on requeststoken.org.

This is not financial advice. Memecoins are risky. Most of them go to zero. Don't put in more than you can afford to lose, and don't put in anything because of me. I'm not promising a price, a return, or anything else.
What I can promise is that I'll be honest about what I'm doing, and that I'll try to make this thing kind, useful, and for humans.
