He reconciles friends and foes, and tells of things to come.
The Spirit
Amon is the seventh spirit of the Ars Goetia and one of its marquises, described as strong and powerful among the ranks of the catalogue. His name has often been connected, by later commentators, with the Egyptian deity Amun, though the grimoire itself preserves nothing of that origin beyond the resemblance of the word; within the demonological tradition he is a wholly infernal officer, a lord of great strength ruling over legions of spirits.
The compilers gave him a striking and unsettling appearance. He shows himself as a wolf with a serpent’s tail, vomiting flame, and when commanded into human form he takes the head of a raven or, in some manuscripts, of an owl with a hound’s teeth. These composite images were meant to convey both his ferocity and his rank.
Office
According to the Goetia, Amon discerns things past and things to come, and he procures both love and reconciliation. He is said to reconcile controversies between friends, and to turn enmity into friendship. His office therefore joins prophecy to the mending of quarrels — a spirit consulted to know the future and to restore broken bonds between those at odds.
