Habuhiah

“The open hand is the shape of health.”

The Angel

Habuhiah is rendered God who gives with liberality, its root carrying the sense of open-handed bounty, sealed by the divine suffix -iah, the presence of Yah. It is an angel of abundance directed toward the body and the soil — the intelligence of healing, of fertility, of the fruitful field and the mended frame. Where several of its neighbours attend to the mind and the mystical, Habuhiah bends toward the practical mercies: the restoration of health, the granting of children to the barren, the blessing of agriculture and the harvest that sustains a people.

The virtue it bestows is generosity that takes root and grows. Habuhiah is invoked for the recovery of health and for the preservation of it, for good crops and fertile ground, and for the kind of liberality that gives freely and finds itself increased rather than diminished. Its healing is holistic — of body, of land, of the relation between them — as though sickness in one were understood as a poverty of giving somewhere in the whole. Under its Piscean governance the waters that Damabiah gathered and Manakel maintained now nourish; Habuhiah lets them soak into the ground and bring forth. To be blessed by this angel is to become a channel of open-handedness, healed by the same abundance one is asked to pass along.
