Amdusias

The trees themselves bow at the sound of his trumpets.

The Spirit

Amdusias — recorded also as Amduscias or Ambduscias — is the sixty-seventh spirit of the Ars Goetia and a Great Duke. He appears at first in the shape of a unicorn, and when the conjurer commands, he takes on human form, arriving amid the sound of trumpets and all manner of musical instruments, though the instruments themselves are not seen. This unseen music is his signature, and it lends him a distinctly festive and theatrical character among the seventy-two.

He is preeminently the spirit of music and of the concord of sounds, a curious pairing with his dominion over the growth of trees. The grimoire treats him as a lord of harmonies both audible and vegetal, one whose power is felt as much through the ear and the garden as through any working of the will.

Office

The Ars Goetia records that Amdusias gives excellent music, causing trumpets and every kind of instrument to be heard though none can be seen. He can cause trees to bend and incline at the conjurer's request, and he gives good familiars. His command over the natural world extends to the making of harmonies, so that his office joins the mastery of music with a gentle authority over growing things, an unusual and gracious combination in a catalogue better known for war and treasure.
