“He knows all hidden things, and the earth gives up its treasure to him.”
The Spirit
Purson is the twentieth spirit of the Ars Goetia and one of its Kings, a great figure of the infernal hierarchy heralded by the sound of trumpets at his coming. The grimoire describes him appearing as a man with the face of a lion, carrying a cruel viper in his hand and riding upon a bear. This composite of leonine countenance, serpent, and ursine mount marks him as a spirit of considerable dignity and power, and the trumpeting that announces him lends his manifestation a ceremonial grandeur befitting his royal rank.
As a King, Purson commands one of the larger followings in the Lesser Key, and the tradition treats him as a source of comprehensive knowledge, both of things concealed and of the world’s buried wealth.
Office
The Goetia holds that Purson knows all things hidden and can discover treasure, revealing what lies concealed beneath the earth. He is said to tell of things past, present, and to come, and to give true answers concerning matters divine and secret, as well as the creation of the world. He can also take a body — either airy or human — at the operator’s command, and furnishes good familiars.
