Of a good nature, and inclined to reveal what is hidden.
The Spirit
Vassago is the third spirit of the Ars Goetia and holds the rank of prince. He is unusual within the grimoire for the temperate character the tradition assigns him: where many of the seventy-two are described as fierce, deceitful, or reluctant, Vassago is called good-natured, and the same description attaches to him in the older scrying literature. His name appears not only in the Lesser Key but in earlier crystallomantic texts, where he was summoned by seers gazing into stones and mirrors, which has given him a lasting association with divination by reflection.
That reputation for benevolence and truthful speech made him a favoured spirit among later practitioners of the visionary arts, who counted him among the more approachable powers of the catalogue.
Office
The Goetia states that Vassago declares things past, present, and to come, and discovers what has been lost or hidden away. His office is essentially oracular and investigative — the recovery of concealed knowledge and misplaced objects — which places him close in function to the spirits of divination, though the grimoire ranks him among its princes rather than its diviner-presidents.
