Cahetel

“Bless the field before the seed, and the harvest will remember.”

The Angel

Cahetel’s name is given as the Adorable God or God worthy of adoration, the -el suffix fastening the impulse of worship to its rightful source. Governing the second five degrees of Taurus, it presides over the blessing of harvests and the fruits of the earth, the abundance that rewards honest cultivation. It is among the most agrarian of the seventy-two, its virtue tied to the visible generosity of the soil and to the gratitude that ought to answer such generosity.

The tradition makes Cahetel a dispeller of evil spirits from the places of labour, driving away whatever would blight the crop or corrupt the increase. It inspires the raising of the soul toward God through the contemplation of created things, so that the working of the land becomes a form of prayer. Those it favours love agriculture, hunting, and all the honest commerce of the countryside, and they prosper in proportion to their diligence. Cahetel answers the Goetic duke Barbatos, whose understanding of the songs of birds and the voices of animals, and whose knowledge of treasures hidden by enchantment, is here turned toward the lawful abundance that the earth yields to those who tend it well.
