“Mercy is the moment the ledger is quietly set aside.”
The Angel
Haziel means God of Mercy — the vision of God, some read it, from a root suggesting sight, so that mercy becomes the way the divine looks upon its creatures. The -el suffix seals the quality of clemency within the Name itself. Occupying the third station of Taurus, from ten to fifteen degrees, Haziel governs forgiveness, the reconciliation of enemies, and the keeping of promises: the whole delicate economy of trust between persons.
To invoke Haziel is to seek the friendship and goodwill of the powerful, and, more inwardly, to obtain mercy for one’s own faults and grace to extend the same to others. The angel is said to render its favourites sincere, faithful to their word, and quick to forget an injury once it has been repaired. Under its influence rancour dissolves and old grievances lose their weight. Haziel answers the Goetic king Paimon, whose vast learning and dominion over the arts and sciences are, in the angelic register, turned from the display of mastery toward the humbler and rarer accomplishment of pardon freely given.
