“The hope of every creature rests in the sanctuary it keeps.”
The Angel
Haamiah is translated “the God the Hope of all creatures” or “God the great hope,” a name whose root reaches toward expectation and refuge, sealed with the divine suffix -iah. It is the angel of sacred protection, the guardian of ritual and of the holy objects through which the divine is approached, and its virtue is the confidence that heaven does not abandon those who seek it rightly.
Ruling the second pentad of Libra, from five to ten degrees, Haamiah presides over religious devotion, ceremony, and the guarding of the sacred. Its classical office is the protection of those engaged in worship and the making of ritual instruments — vessels, ornaments, and consecrated things — and it is said to preside over the earth's precious metals and gems, the raw matter of holy craft. The virtue it bestows is reverent devotion joined to protection from error and deceit in spiritual matters: the gift of a well-ordered piety that neither falls into superstition nor loses its warmth. Under its influence the sincere seeker is shielded from false doctrine and from the snares that beset the devout, and the work of consecration is preserved from corruption. It is invoked by those who tend altars and sacred spaces, by makers of ritual objects, and by any who wish to keep their spiritual life honest and protected. In the comparative scheme Haamiah answers the Goetic earl Halphas, who builds towers and furnishes them with weapons and munitions; where Halphas fortifies for war, Haamiah fortifies for worship, raising the inner sanctuary that no weapon reaches.
