Mumiah

“Every ending is a doorway; the last of the Name opens onto the first.”

The Angel

Mumiah closes the seventy-two, and its name is rendered God, the end of all things — its root evoking consummation and the fulfilment of what was begun, sealed by the divine suffix -iah, the presence of Yah. It is the angel of completion and of the threshold that endings become: the last degree of Pisces, the final turn of the zodiac, the point where the wheel closes and prepares to begin again. Mumiah presides over conclusions of every kind — the finishing of an undertaking, the successful close of an operation, the good death that crowns a life.

The virtue Mumiah bestows is the grace to bring things to their proper end. It governs the completion of experiments and enterprises, the restoration of health after long illness as a kind of return to wholeness, and the mystical operations that require the full circuit of the Name to be run before they can bear fruit. There is nothing morbid in its dominion over endings; Mumiah teaches that an end well made is itself a form of health, that decay is only failed completion, and that what is truly finished is not destroyed but fulfilled. As the seal upon the whole Shem ha-Mephorash, it returns the descending current back to its source, so that the end of all things is discovered to be continuous with their beginning.
