Omael

“Fruitfulness is the reward of the patient hand.”

The Angel

The name Omael joins the root ‘āmal — to labour, to endure, to bear with patience — to the divine suffix -el, “God,” yielding a sense often rendered as “the Patient God” or “God who endures.” It is a name of long duration, of the slow ripening of things that cannot be hurried. Where the impatient will grasps and spoils, Omael teaches the discipline of waiting until the season turns of its own accord.

Governing the final five degrees of Leo, at the fiery close of the sign, Omael tempers Leo's blaze into a warmth that quickens rather than scorches. Its classical office is multiplication — of species, of harvests, of families and generations — and so it is invoked by those who tend growing things, whether livestock, orchards, or children. The virtue it bestows is fertile patience: the steadiness to remain at a work whose fruit lies far off, and the faith that what is sown in season will not fail to rise. Omael soothes despair and grief, restoring to the discouraged the animal will to continue. In the comparative scheme, it stands opposite the Goetic marquis Forneus, whose gifts of reputation and eloquence Omael answers with quieter constancy and increase.
