Vasariah

“Justice unmixed with mercy is only cruelty made lawful.”

The Angel

The name Vasariah is read as “the Just God” or “God the Just,” its root bearing the sense of uprightness and equity, closed with the feminine-divine suffix -iah, a contraction of the sacred Name Yah. Yet the angel's justice is never bare severity; it is justice softened by clemency, the balance in which the scale is weighed with a merciful thumb. Vasariah presides over the moment in which judgment and forgiveness are reconciled.

Ruling the second pentad of Virgo, from five to ten degrees, Vasariah governs the domain of law, magistracy, and noble speech. It is invoked by advocates and judges, by those who plead before the powerful, and by any who seek a favourable verdict tempered by grace rather than a ruthless letter of the law. The virtue it bestows is a good and generous memory joined to eloquence — the gift of remembering rightly and speaking justly, so that the truth is served without the innocent being crushed. Under its patronage the harshness of authority is bent toward mercy, and those who have erred find that the door of pardon is not wholly shut. In the paired comparative reading, Vasariah answers the Goetic king Asmoday, master of geometry, arithmetic, and hidden treasure; where Asmoday confers ruthless craft and the ring of virtue, Vasariah confers the merciful equity that keeps such power from tyranny.
