A fallen angel who speaks in mysteries and warms the hidden waters.
The Spirit
Crocell — also written Crocell, Procel, or Pucel — is the forty-ninth spirit of the Ars Goetia, a Great Duke who appears in the form of an angel. Among the more dignified figures of the catalogue, he speaks darkly and mystically of hidden things, presenting himself with a gravity that sets him apart from the beast-shaped spirits. The grimoire notes that before his fall he belonged to the angelic order of Powers, a detail that lends his portrait a note of lost grace.
His dominion touches the elements, particularly water and the subtle heats concealed within the earth, and he is counted among the spirits of learning as much as of natural force.
Office
The Goetia records that Crocell teaches geometry and the liberal sciences, and that he speaks mystically of secret and hidden matters. He has power over the waters: at the operator’s command he makes the sound of great rushing waters where none exist, and he warms waters and discovers baths — a reference to natural hot springs. His combination of scholarly instruction with mastery over water and heat marks him as a spirit of the deep places, both intellectual and elemental.
