Greatness of soul is the one elevation that costs no one their footing.
The Angel
Vehuel (וְהוּאֵל) pairs a root conveying height, greatness, and elevation with the divine suffix -el, "God," yielding "God the great and lofty" or "the Great and Elevated God." He opens the sign of Sagittarius as the forty-ninth of the seventy-two names distilled from Exodus 14:19–21, and his character carries all of Sagittarius's aspiration toward the high and the far.
Vehuel's virtue is magnanimity and greatness of soul. He elevates those under his influence toward noble sentiment, generosity, and the disinterested love of great things — literature, philosophy, the praise and blessing of God. Unlike ambition, which climbs at another's expense, the elevation Vehuel bestows is inward: an enlargement of the heart that makes a person genuinely bigger without making anyone else smaller. The tradition sets him over sensitive and grateful temperaments, over those moved to admiration by the grandeur of creation and inclined to express it in art or worship. Ruling the opening five degrees of Sagittarius, the sign of the seeker and the philosopher, Vehuel bends the archer's arrow upward toward the sublime. To call on him is to ask for the capacity to be raised — in spirit, in reputation, in the quality of one's longings — and to bear that elevation with the humility proper to a borrowed height.
