He discovers hidden things, and knows the outcome of wars to come.
The Spirit
Eligos — spelled also Eligor or Abigor in the wider demonological tradition — is the fifteenth spirit of the Ars Goetia and a great duke of its hierarchy. The grimoire gives him a knightly and soldierly aspect: he appears as a goodly knight, bearing a lance, an ensign, and in some accounts a serpent, an image that binds him closely to the arts of war and command. He belongs among the martial spirits of the catalogue, but his office reaches beyond the fighting itself to the knowledge and favour that surround it.
His appearance as an armed knight, rather than as a beast or a composite monster, marks him as one of the more courtly figures of the tradition, a lord of the field and of counsel.
Office
The Goetia holds that Eligos discovers hidden things and knows the outcome of wars, and how soldiers should meet in battle. He is said to procure the love of lords and of great persons, joining the martial gift of foreknowledge to the courtly gift of favour. His office therefore serves both the commander who would know the fortunes of a campaign and the suitor who would win the regard of the powerful.
