An archer clad in green, who stirs up battles and festering wounds.
The Spirit
Leraje — spelled variously Leraie, Loray, or Oray — is the fourteenth spirit of the Ars Goetia and one of its marquises. Among the seventy-two he is a martial spirit, and the grimoire pictures him accordingly: a gallant archer dressed in green, bearing a bow and quiver. This clear and singular image, free of the hybrid monstrosity that marks many of his fellows, gives him a memorable place in the catalogue as a huntsman or man-at-arms of the invisible order.
His province is strife and its bodily consequences, and the tradition remembers him as a spirit of war and of the injuries that war brings.
Office
According to the Goetia, Leraje causes battles and contentions, and he makes the wounds of those hurt by arrows to putrefy and fester. His office is therefore wholly given over to conflict — the stirring of quarrels into open fighting and the aggravation of wounds — which places him among the small number of spirits in the catalogue whose function is martial harm rather than knowledge, love, or gain.
