He speaks of the fall and of the things that were before the world was made.
The Spirit
Haures — recorded also as Flauros, Hauras, or Havres — is the sixty-fourth spirit of the Ars Goetia and a Great Duke. He first appears in the shape of a terrible and mighty leopard, and when commanded by the exorcist to take a human form, he does so, showing a man's face with fierce, flaming eyes. The grimoire treats him as a spirit of fire and of dangerous truth, one whose plain form must be constrained before his answers can be trusted.
The manuscripts sound a note of caution regarding Haures. Left to himself, or standing outside the protection of the triangle, he is said to speak falsely and to deceive the conjurer in all things. Only when he is bound within the triangle and adjured by the divine names does he become a truthful counsellor, willing to discourse on matters both cosmic and immediate.
Office
The Ars Goetia holds that Haures gives true answers of all things past, present, and to come, provided he is duly constrained. He discourses of the creation of the world, of divinity, and of the fall of the spirits — the theological history of the rebellion. He will also, at the conjurer's word, destroy and burn the operator's enemies, and defend the exorcist from other spirits, so that his office joins prophecy with a fierce protective violence.
