A leopard that stands as a man, unmaker of the mind’s certainties.
The Spirit
Ose — also written Oso, Voso, or Oze — is the fifty-seventh spirit of the Ars Goetia, a Great President who appears in the form of a leopard and, when commanded by the operator, takes on the shape of a man. He is a spirit of the intellect and of transformation, but of a peculiar and unsettling kind: his powers touch not only what a person knows but the very sense a person has of who they are.
The grimoire portrays him as a compact but potent spirit, and his relatively small legion belies the profound reach of his office, which extends into the interior world of identity and belief.
Office
The Goetia says that Ose makes men wise in the liberal sciences and gives true answers concerning divine and secret things. His most striking power is over the mind itself: at the operator’s command he can change a man into any shape the operator wishes, and so completely persuade that person of the transformation that he genuinely believes himself to be that creature — losing his senses and his former self for a time. His office thus joins learning and revelation with a disquieting mastery over perception and self-knowledge.
