Gremory

A fair woman upon a camel, a duchess crowned, keeper of buried gold.

The Spirit

Gremory — also written Gomory or Gemory — is the fifty-sixth spirit of the Ars Goetia, a strong and powerful Duke. He is notable for appearing in the form of a beautiful woman, wearing a duchess’s crown or coronet about the waist, and riding upon a great camel. This feminine presentation is uncommon in the largely masculine catalogue, and it aligns Gremory with the spirits concerned with love and affection rather than with force or terror.

The grimoire treats him as a spirit of both revelation and desire, at once a finder of concealed things and a procurer of favour, and his gentle aspect made him one of the more frequently invoked figures of the tradition.

Office

According to the Goetia, Gremory tells of all things past, present, and to come, and discovers hidden treasures that lie concealed. His most sought-after gift concerns love: he procures the affection of women, both young and old, and especially wins for the operator the love of maidens. His office thus joins prophecy and the finding of buried wealth with the granting of romantic favour, uniting the seer and the go-between in a single, notably obliging spirit.
