Raum

A crow that steals from kings and lays their cities in ruin.

The Spirit

Raum — also written Raym or Raim — is the fortieth spirit of the Ars Goetia, a Great Earl who appears first in the form of a crow and takes on human shape at the command of the operator. He is one of the destructive spirits of the catalogue, a thief and a leveller of cities, yet the grimoires balance this with an unexpected softer office: he is also a maker of love and a reconciler of enemies. He carries the double character of the raider and the peacemaker.

Like several of his fellows, Raum is said to have once belonged to the Order of Thrones before the fall, a lineage that lends him a certain dignity beneath the crow's plumage. The tradition treats him as a spirit of both ruin and repute, called upon as readily to bind friendships as to break down what stands.

Office

The Goetia says that Raum steals treasures out of the houses of kings and carries them where he is commanded. He destroys cities and the dignities of men, tells all things past, present, and to come, and causes love between friends and foes alike. His office thus spans theft, destruction, prophecy, and reconciliation — a wide and contradictory portfolio held together by his rank as Earl.
