“The victor’s laurel is woven from the same branch that bore the storm.”
The Angel
Lauviah is rendered God praised and exalted, its root of praise redoubled and bound to the divine -iah. Governing the fifth division of Taurus, from twenty to twenty-five degrees, it presides over victory — not the victory of conquest but the triumph that vindicates the just and lifts them above their adversaries. Its exaltation is the answering of praise with the substance praise deserves, the crowning of merit that has proven itself under trial.
The tradition makes Lauviah a bestower of renown among the learned and the great, granting celebrity earned through genius and useful discovery rather than through favour or intrigue. It protects against the machinations of the envious and turns the assaults of enemies to the defender’s advantage. Those it favours are marked by an elevated intelligence, a love of music and poetry, and a natural inclination toward the higher sciences. Under its influence the soul rises through legitimate success and rests, at length, in a hard-won serenity. Lauviah answers the Goetic duke Gusion, whose power to declare things past, present, and to come and to reconcile enemies is here transfigured into the clear-sighted victory that reconciles a soul with its own worth.
