Hahaiah

“What the day conceals, the night quietly delivers.”

The Angel

Hahaiah means God of Refuge, or the God who is a hiding place, the -iah suffix fastening the idea of shelter to the Lord’s Name. Closing the sign of Taurus in the sixth station — twenty-five to thirty degrees — it governs dreams and hidden things, presiding over the concealed mysteries that reveal themselves to the soul in sleep and contemplation rather than in the plain light of day. It is the angel of the sanctuary within, the interior recess where the frightened spirit takes cover and, in taking cover, receives instruction.

The tradition credits Hahaiah with the revelation of hidden mysteries and with the granting of prophetic and instructive dreams. It softens harsh dispositions, disposing them toward gentleness and discretion, and it shields those who guard secrets faithfully. Those under its patronage are drawn to spiritual and abstract subjects, keep confidences well, and possess an amiable, agreeable manner. Hahaiah answers the Goetic prince Sitri, whose office is to inflame desire and to reveal what is secretly held; in the angelic register that same power to disclose the hidden is purified, turned from the enkindling of lust toward the illumination that comes to the sheltered and quieted mind.
